    The idea that caffeine causes dehydration by acting has some truth to it but can be misleading; while high doses of caffeine can have this action in people with no tolerance to caffeine (2-3 cups of coffee in someone not used to having any), there’s an overwhelming scientific consensus that long-term, moderate caffeine consumption does not act as a diuretic and does not contribute to dehydration.
