Coffee is a food that could almost be said to be essential in the habits of millions of people worldwide. What many do not know is that among the benefits of coffee for the organism is to reduce the risk of liver cancer. At least, so say a group of scientists from the Instituto Tumori Fondazione Pascale (Italy).
The study they conducted, which has known this summer, has resulted in both coffee and tea, into perspective, are good for preventing liver cancer.
Regarding the study data, the authors investigated the relationship between coffee and liver cancer in 185 patients with liver cancer and 412 healthy individuals who served as control. The scientists found that those who took at least 28 cups of coffee per week had a 60 percent lower risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma than those who drank less than 14 cups a week. The researchers also found that people who drank coffee had twice the risk of cancer of this type compared with those who drank less than 14 cups a week. Similarly, the study argues that the tea and decaffeinated coffee does not have the same protective effects that regular coffee consumption.
As a final conclusion of the study and explaining that coffee is good for liver cancer, scientists say that coffee contains large amounts of antioxidants and other substances that protect the liver from damage produced by alcohol.
